fitness - what does it involve?
Fitness is a combination of things. In its most basic form, fitness is good health as a result of proper nutrition and exercise. However, the components involved in achieving a high level of fitness are more complex. Fitness doesn’t just involve eating a balanced diet. Fitness entails learning about calories and watching your cholesterol level. It also involves counting calories in food and balancing your carbohydrates. Proper fitness requires you to pay closer attention to the food you eat and to read the nutrition facts label on food packaging. Being aware of what’s in the food you eat is a critical component to achieving peak fitness levels. The U.S. government has even stepped in to help promote better health and fitness by updating the food guide pyramid to educate people better about the importance of a balanced diet and physical fitness. Everyone should be concerned about their diet, the foods they eat, and how it affects their overall fitness.
But fitness isn’t just about diet. It also involves weight training and monitoring your heart rate. In order to be physically fit, you need to participate in normal exercise. Finding out your body mass index (BMI) is the first step in improving your fitness level through exercise. Your BMI will tell you whether or not you’re overweight and where you stand regarding your weight. Your fitness level is directly related to how much you work out, your muscle vs. fat ratio, and, according to the American Heart Association, the health of your heart. Even if you’re average weight, if you smoke or abuse narcotics, your heart could be in danger. When your heart is unhealthy, you are far from your peak fitness level. If you want to improve your overall fitness, you need to start losing weight and improving the health of your heart through exercise.
So as you can see, your fitness is the sum of many parts. Many factors, like the calories in a pound of fat, affect your level of fitness and you need to educate yourself on all components involved. If you want to improve your fitness, you need to stand back and take a look at your eating habits and exercise levels. You may discover that you’re consuming too many fast food calories or not working out enough; or you might find out that your diet isn’t balanced and you need to start eating more vegetables or proteins. It’s even possible that you’ll discover that you’re considered overweight. That’s why it’s necessary to take a comprehensive look at your daily life and analyze how it affects your fitness level. Once you establish your current level of fitness, you can then start following basic fitness tips and climb your way to better health.
