Fast Food Calories

If you get most of your meals from a drive-thru window, you need to make yourself aware of fast food calories. Fast food calories are unhealthy and bad for your body. Fast food is highly processed and manufactured to be long lasting. The preservatives and high levels of sodium contained in fast food can lead to health issues if you overindulge too much.

However, you don’t need to cut out fast food completely. Just be more aware of fast food calories and which fast food items are healthier. For starters, when you eat fast food, choose chicken over meat. The meat used by most fast food restaurants is not the leanest meat around. So, order chicken. Make sure the chicken is grilled or roasted. Battered and fried chicken just don’t give you the nutrients you need. Fried food in general is very unhealthy for you and full of fat and sodium. Fried foods retain most of their fat when cooked. Grilled or roasted chicken, on the other hand, are lower in fat and sodium, and healthier than the standard fast food burger.

Also, if you want to avoid fast food calories, stay away from the deserts, including milk shakes. Most deserts are high in sugar and fat. Even if something is labeled as a low-fat desert, it’s still not the healthiest thing to eat. Instead, avoid deserts completely. Don’t reach for the shake or the apple pie. Just because it has applies in it doesn’t make it nutritional. As delicious as they may be, deserts are drenched in fast food calories and should be avoided.

However, fast food calories don’t just exist in burgers and fries. They’re also in the soda you order. Many sodas are high in calories and sugar, and contain no nutrients. Diet sodas, however, have little to no calories or sugar. But, just because they have no calories, doesn’t make diet soda a good source for nutrients. Soda, in general, has very limited nutritional value. So, when you can, replace soda with non-carbonated drinks. Water is always a great alternative, as is non-fat milk, juice, or decaffeinated tea. Next time you’re in the drive through, opt for something other than your normal soda.

And finally, when you’re at your favorite fast food joint, don’t “go large”. Keep your portions small. A combo that comes with a large soda, large fries, and a triple cheeseburger isn’t healthy to begin with. When you “extra large” everything, you’re also extra large-ing your fast food calories. Keep your fast food portions to a minimum. Just because the combo is a great deal or it only costs 25 cents to bump your combo up to the next level doesn’t mean you have to.

Fast food calories aren’t part of a balanced diet. If you want to lower the amount of calories you’re consuming, but still want to indulge in fast food occasionally, just be careful what you order. Fast food calories can sneak up on you when you least expect it.
