Obesity – A Concern for All

Obesity affects each and every one of us. Even if you aren’t obese, you probably know at least one person who is considered obese and is plagued with health problems. Obesity is a serious epidemic affecting people across the globe and it needs to be addressed. Poor diet and lack of exercise are two leading causes of obesity, and can’t be ignored any longer. If we continue to let our weight grow out of control, morbid obesity will consume our existence and people will start living shorter, unhealthier lives.

Tackling Obesity

Obesity is defined as an increase in body weight as a result of excess fat. In some cases, obesity affects entire families as a result of their genetic make up. In others, obesity is a direct result of poor eating habits and lack of exercise. If you eat unhealthy foods and don’t exercise, fat can accumulate in your body very rapidly. And if there is a history of obesity in your family, your chances of becoming obese are even higher. Some people don’t even know that they’re obese and think that they just need to lose a few pounds. That’s why you need to be aware of your health, understand obesity, and be aware of obesity in America.

Even though it may appear that more people are going to the gym and watching what they eat, recent obesity statistics show a significant increase in obesity since the 1960s. That means more and more people are eating unhealthy foods and not working out. If we want to drastically reverse these statistics, we need to curb our fast food consumption and bring exercise into our lives. Obesity in America is climbing and needs to be stopped.

We also need to start educating our children about eating healthy. Childhood obesity is also on the rise and affecting the health of our children. Obese parents tend to have obese children. If you want to keep our children safe from diseases caused by obesity, you need to tackle your own obesity and know how to keep your children out of the reaches of obesity. If left unaddressed, your children will fall victim to illness and serious disease much easier.

Obesity is on the rise and needs to be stopped. If you’re concerned about your health, and the health of your children, educate yourself about obesity. Then, take a good look at your eating habits and the habits of your entire family. Do you see bad habits forming?
